on the heights of Montélimar and accessible in a few minutes on foot from the city center, the château bears witness to the power of the Adhémar family, who gave the city its name. It consists of a stately home, a Romanesque chapel, a square tower and a fortified enclosure surmounted by a wall walk. Over the centuries, the buildings have had many functions: palace, fortress, citadel then prison. Now owned by the Department of Drôme and listed monument, it has undergone successive restorations before its opening to the public in 1983. A true gem of southern Romanesque architecture, you can admire the arcaded windows that are unique in the world and a breathtaking 360 ° panorama from the rampart walk.
