24 rue du châteauPlateau de Narbonne26200 Montélimar

Enter a surprising citadel, witness to the powerful Adhémar family, who gave the city its name. An entertaining and friendly experience around the Middle Ages, to be lived through the eyes of children.

on the heights of Montélimar and accessible in a few minutes on foot from the city center, the château bears witness to the power of the Adhémar family, who gave the city its name. It consists of a stately home, a Romanesque chapel, a square tower and a fortified enclosure surmounted by a wall walk. Over the centuries, the buildings have had many functions: palace, fortress, citadel then prison. Now owned by the Department of Drôme and listed monument, it has undergone successive restorations before its opening to the public in 1983. A true gem of southern Romanesque architecture, you can admire the arcaded windows that are unique in the world and a breathtaking 360 ° panorama from the rampart walk.
