Ferrassières

Bordering the Plateau of Albion, the village of Ferrassières stands at an altitude of 1000 metres and is surrounded by fields of lavender often lined with almond trees. The bouquets of lavender are the main trade in this fief of the blue lavender. Among the many lavender growers, two open their doors to share their know-how : Ho!Bouquet de lavande and le château de la Gabelle.

For the curious or for lovers of the beauties of landscapes in search of silence, the botanic lavender trail offers an opportunity to be in the middle of an authentic nature.
You will here discover strange buildings made of dry stone and standing in the middle of fields; they are the “Bories” or sheep pens, which used to serve as shelters for flocks and shepherds.

As you leave the village in the direction of Séderon, you will discover a panorama on the road to the Col de l'Homme Mort (a toponym probably derived from a corruption of "Elme Mort") and towards Revest-du-Bion, you will pass the Château de la Gabelle, a Provençal style residence built in the thirteenth century, which takes its name from the tax on salt formerly levied in the region. Converted into bed and breakfasts and gîtes on a lavender farm, the Château de la Gabelle was recently selected by the Bern mission and the heritage foundation for consolidation work and the restoration of the sheepfold.

The Blue lavender feast occurs every 1st Sunday of July and is the earliest festival in Provence to celebrate the emblematic plant.
