'Jardin du Roy' Protected Natural Site

'Jardin du Roy' Protected Natural Site
26150 Die

A natural site with an outstanding ecological value of over 807 hectares, featuring upland pastures, forest, moors, sheer cliffs and limestone pavements. Its highest point is 'La Croix du Lautaret' at 1951 meters of altitude.

The largest part of this Protected Natural Site is part of and managed by the Vercors High Plateau Nature Reserve. The landscape features a species of pine endemic to the mountain regions. Scotch pines and beech trees colonise the steep slopes of the lower mountains.

Overlooking Archiane Cirque, le Jardin du Roy hosts a griffon vulture colony in its walls, making it a perfect vantage point to observe this species. This natural site is also close to a bearded vulture re-introduction site, a project led by the 'Parc National Regional du Vercors'.
