The Huguenot trail cycling option

On the tracks of the Huguenots (French Protestants)… on a bike, to guide you, as closely as possible, along the exile route followed by the Huguenots after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes (1685). This rediscovery of an entire chapter in the history of France and the opening up of a heritage themed route has been homologated by the European Council as a cultural route and as a varied and outstanding itinerary. The route crosses the Drôme, the Isère, Savoie and Haute-Savoie, on quiet roads and designated cycling routes.

The road to exile

Nine topographical guide files cover the 430km journey. The route features a ‘return’ alternative from the ViaRhôna in the Drôme to Genève. The total uphill for the route is 7,622 m. The suggested stages are all around 50km in length and are only suggestions. The route can be covered a day at a time, over a weekend or for a week. The route is suitable for cyclists who cycle on a regular basis but are not especially fit. For cyclists who are fitter and in training, the stages can be ridden two or even three at a time.
