Château des Cornillans

Château des Cornillans
26120 La Baume-Cornillane

Baume means grotto, in reference to the Grotte de la Dame, 30 minutes from the village. Catherine de Cornillan is the latest in a long line of descendants. Their coat of arms, three crows, suggests that they took their name from the bird.

These lords owned several fiefs and made alliances with the lords of Rousset and Pègue, as well as with the lords of Vinsobres. In 1562, Catherine embraced the Reformed religion and La Baume became an entirely Protestant village.
